ATA-AEA Celebrating 50 Years of the Merger 1969-2019
In 1869 Arkansas Education Association (AEA) was formed to advocate for the rights of white students and teachers. Likewise, in 1898 The Arkansas Teachers Association (ATA) was established to do the same for black students and teachers. Both organizations promoted teacher education and well-being, and maintained state support and funding for public education. Eventually the two organizations realized they were indeed better together. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the merger of the Arkansas Education Association and the Arkansas Teachers Association. Join us as we celebrate and continue the mission: "To advocate for education professionals and to unite our members and the state to fulfill the promise of public education to prepare every student to succeed in a diverse and interdependent world."
